Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Sylvia Spears

Carolina Gallery on Morgan Square in Spartanburg, SC, will present new paintings by Sylvia Spears, on view from Dec. 10 through Jan. 31, 2010.

Through the use of bold color or perspective, Spears captures the movement and energy in her subject matter. Whether the work portrays an inanimate object or a figure, Spears instills life on her canvases. She states, "I tend to paint from my experiences in this world.  The world around us is fascinating - full of surprises, mystery and emotion, a world I examine through the process of painting." The result is a mystical style, showing emotion, which Spears considers a vital part of the creative process.

Spears holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Art Education from Winthrop University and a Master of Arts in Art Education from the University of South Carolina. A former elementary school art teacher, she now takes part in the screening for Art Visions Gifted Program and is a teacher in the Summer Arts Institute for the Art Gifted and Talented in Spartanburg's District 6. Spears is an award winning artist who has been included in a wide range of juried exhibitions.  Her work is included in private collections in the United States and England.
