Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, Features Works by Martha dePoo

The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Winter Show of New Paintings, featuring twenty one new paintings by Martha dePoo, on view through Dec. 11, 2010.

Much of the subject matter will embrace the Carolina Lowcountry, both past and present. Several paintings include familiar subjects from Pawleys Island and Georgetown, SC.

A Floridian, dePoo has worked as a full-time artist since 1984, and for much of that time has been painting the fast disappearing Key West life that she grew up observing. Her work has been featured in numerous shows and has won many awards.

In 2006, the Key West Art & Historical Society hosted an unprecedented ten week one-woman show of her paintings at the Customs House Museum.

A master in the medium of watercolor, dePoo began showing her work at The Cheryl Newby Gallery in 2006 and is now one of the gallery's most collected artists. She visits the Carolina Lowcountry gathering ideas for her paintings and studies the history of the area to learn about life and customs of the Carolina Lowcountry of time past. Her work is distinguished by an ability to draw the viewer into a scene with body language and relationships between her subjects. Humor is often an underlying element in her paintings and vivid color ever-present.
