Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, Offers Works by New Craft Guild

The Art League of Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island, SC, is presenting the exhibit, CraftHiltonHead2011, featuring the debut exhibition of the Fine Art Crafts Guild, on view in the Walter Greer Gallery at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina through Dec. 30, 2011. A reception will be held on Dec. 1, from 5-7pm.

Sheri Farbstein, a seasoned Hilton Head artist, is the founder of the Fine Art Crafts Guild. She feels that fine crafts have been upstaged by two-dimensional artwork for too long and is determined to change that with the new Guild and its first exhibition of 20 artists, some of them are Mark Larkin, Angela Misthal, Dicky Stone, and Cindy Levy, who emerged as a Dale Chihuli student and has made her own name. She has created the striking glasswork in Hilton Head’s restaurant EAT.

Farbstein says that she and her Craft Guild members are “passionate about fine art crafts!” She also wants the public to know, “that the caliber of crafts you will see in this exhibition will be on par with large craft shows nationwide.”

Exhibiting artists in the Guild were juried in by a committee of fine art crafters and will have a special label highlighting their guild membership. The fine art craft artists want to show you what you can do with three-dimensional art in your house. Farbstein’s goal is for “everyone to have a beautiful piece of art in their home.”

The Art League Gallery is located in the Greer Gallery of the Arts Center in Shelter Cove. In addition to the featured artists, the gallery will be displaying the work of other member artists as well.
