SC Watercolor Society Hosts Annual Regional Gatherings Around South Carolina

The SC Watercolor Society (SCWS) will host its Annual Regional Gatherings with five different programs at five locations throughout the state. SCWS members, all interested artists (non-members), and art patrons are invited to attend, free of charge.

The SCWS Regional Gatherings are intended to provide an educational program as well as offer an opportunity for artists to get together on a local level, share expertise, network with fellow artists, exchange ideas, get some artistic feedback ... and just visit with some friends. Each program will open with a social gathering and refreshments will be served. Come and register to win door prizes.

SCWS membership is open to all SC residents or property owners. Plus, this year, NC artists in Polk and Rutherford Counties are invite to participate as a guest member. Dues are $25 annually.

The SCWS 23rd Annual Exhibition will open May 20 at the Spartanburg Museum of Art in Spartanburg, SC. There will be $10,000 in cash awards to the top 30 winners. SCWS will host Art Market, which is a five day event that displays all the show entries during May 8 -12. This offers members the opportunity to show and market their work to the public.

An traveling exhibition of selected works from the Annual Exhibition will travel to exhibit spaces throughout South Carolina during the following year.

Also during May 8 -12, there is a workshop, The Figure in the Landscape, taught by Serge Hollerbach. Hollerbach, NA, AWS, DF, is the author of numerous books and articles. His works have been shown in numerous museums in the US and Europe, with recent exhibitions in France and Russia. The workshop is designed to teach students to paint figures in the landscape with transparent and/or opaque watermedia. Enrollment is limited to 25. The class fee is $295.

Feb. 5, 9:30am-noon, Hilton Head, SC - Sea Pines Community Service Admin. Museum, 17 Greenwood Dr, Space is limited, Call Barb Lothrop 843/671-528 for reservations - An experimental watercolor painting lecture & demonstration by Carrie Burns Brown, SCWS and national award winning artist from Greenville, SC.

Feb. 14, 7pm, Columbia, SC - Forest Lake Recreation Center, Wedgefield Rd., near Columbia Mall - Co-sponsored by the Treholm Artists Guild. Critique of paintings by Harriet Goode, 1998 SCWS President from Rock Hill, SC. Bring 1-2 paintings for review.

Feb. 24, 6:30pm, Pawleys Island, SC - St. Peters Lutheran Church 65 Crooked Oak (Hwy.17) - Co-sponsored by the Lowcountry Artists. A lecture & demonstration program by Betty Robinson, 1998 SCWS Best in Show award winner will be offered.

Feb. 27, 3pm, Greenville, SC - Tempo Gallery, 125 W. Stone Ave. - Co-sponsored by Upstate Visual Arts. A painting demonstration by Angela Bradburn, 1997 SCWS President from Columbia, SC, will be offered.

Mar. 8, 6:30pm, Charleston, SC - Charleston County Library, 68 Calhoun St. - Co-sponsored by the Chalreston Artist Guild. An experimental watercolor painting program will be offered by Nita Yancey from Columbia, SC.
