Appalachian State University Faculty Exhibition in Boone, NC

An exhibit at Appalachian State University's Catherine J. Smith Gallery in Boone, NC, will feature a diverse and exciting array of recent works by faculty members in the Department of Art. The exhibit, sponsored by Appalachian's Office of Cultural Affairs and the Catherine J. Smith Gallery as part of the 2000-2001 Visual Arts Series, will run through Mar. 9.

"Appalachian State University is recognized for its outstanding faculty and its commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, creativity, and service," states Ming Land, dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, "and the art faculty are strong examples of this quality and commitment. I am pleased and proud that we have this opportunity to showcase the dynamic visual arts research being conducted by the art faculty. The annual faculty exhibition is instrumental in providing the students and the community with insight into the caliber of works created by these educators and artists."

"The strength of the Department of Art at Appalachian State is in its dedicated faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and creative research," observed Laura Ives. "As the new chair here in the Department of Art, I am very happy to be working with this unique and talented, diverse group of artists."

Featured in the exhibition will be works by Janet Montgomery, Barbara Yale-Read, Judy Humphrey, Nancy Sokolove, Glenn Phifer, Joan Smyly Durden, Eli Bentor, Laura Ives, Eric Purves, Jim Toub, Michael Allen, Robin Martindale, Lisa Stinson, Margaret Carter Martine, Carmen Grier, Ann Thompson, Gary Nemcosky, Elaine Hathor, Lilith E. Nielander, Marianne Stevens Suggs, Kathleen Campbell, Edison Midgett, Tim Ford, Mary Prather, Hank T. Foreman, Christopher Curtin, Margaret Yaukey, and Joe Czarnecki.
