Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Presents Exhibit of Prints & Photo Prints

The William H. Van Every, Jr. Gallery at Davidson College in Davidson, NC, will host an exhibition of masterful "lift ground" etchings by the renowned American artist Peter Milton (b. 1930) through Mar. 2.

For more than forty years Milton has produced dense, complex works that are both technically exquisite and intriguing analogies drawn from the worlds of art, theater, and literature. They posses a surreal quality, yet are structured with an array of formal elements that lure one into and around them. It can take Milton up to a year to compose and execute one of his works.

The Prints of Peter Milton exhibition was originally organized by the Asheville Art Museum, and is sponsored in part by the Fine Print Room at Hodges Taylor Gallery in Charlotte, NC.

Concurrently with that exhibit, the college will present Unspoiled Cyprus in the Edward M. Smith Gallery. This exhibition features prints derived from vintage glass lantern slides (c. 1920) of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. These important visual documents of pre-industrialized Cyprus were recently discovered at Metrolina flea market in Charlotte by Michael Toumazou, associate professor of classics at Davidson. Toumazou, a native of Cyprus, has led archaeological expeditions to the Mediterranean island for the past ten years.
