Women's Center in Chapel Hill, NC, Holds 17th Annual Art Exhibition for NC Women Artists

Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is an art exhibit and sale from Feb. 9 - 16 that showcases the work of women artists from all over NC. The art exhibit is on view at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is sponsored by The Women's Center in Chapel Hill, NC, a non-profit organization that offers information and referral, career, legal, financial and support services to women and their families. This exhibition serves as the Center's primary fundraiser while promoting the Center's mission as a celebration of the work and vision of NC's women artists.

Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands began 17 years ago by a small group of women artists and art supporters of Chapel Hill. Their vision was to create an inspiring exhibition of women's art but they had difficulty obtaining gallery space. They approached The Women's Center of Chapel Hill with the idea and proposed a joint effort. Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands has now become the largest juried women's art show in the state of NC. Last year, over 450 artists submitted entries and 120 artists were selected to exhibit works in the show. Nearly half of the exhibited art sold. One third of each art sale, as well as proceeds from the events surrounding the exhibition, directly benefit The Women's Center.

The Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands art exhibition also includes two special events, a luncheon and a preview party. These events attract local artists, their friends and families, art dealers and art lovers to Chapel Hill. This will be the eighth year that a representative from Sotheby's will attend the show to scout for new talent and to present the Sotheby's Award for Outstanding Work.

The George Watts Hill Alumni Center will host all the events surrounding the art exhibit. The Opening Preview Party on Feb. 9 is free to exhibiting artists and tickets are $75. "The Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands" art exhibit and sale is free and open to the public. The luncheon will be held Feb. 16 from 10:30am-2pm. The cost is $50 per ticket.

Through special events such as Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands, The Women's Center is able to provide opportunities for women to develop and express their talent, vision and voice. The Women's Center cordially invites you to join us in the special celebration of women.
