February Issue 2005

Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Tami Cardnella and Daryl Knox

Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC will present an exhibition entitled, Wild at Waterfront, featuring works by Tami Cardnella and Daryl Knox. The show will run from Feb. 17 through Mar. 3 2005.

Tami Cardnella

For the exhibition Cardnella, who paints in oils, has presently been working "en plein air" (literally painting outdoors) later bringing her small studies indoors to produce larger works. Her representational style captures the color and movement of far ranging subject matter. Of her recent works, Cardnella says "I try and view my Low Country surroundings with an artist's eye by looking for colors that lie just beneath the surface of what I believe most eyes see."

A painter for nearly two decades Cardnella has made oils her focus for the last 10 years. She exhibits in several galleries throughout the Southeast and has been featured at many prestigious shows including Savannah's Telfair Museum, and Florida's Boca Raton and the Lowe Museums.

Daryl Knox studied art at Northern Kentucky University and printmaking at Western Kentucky University. He has been an artist full time since 1986. Featured in juried shows throughout the Southeast, many examples of his award winning work are held in private collections in the US, Europe, and Canada.

Knox begins his paintings with "no end product in mind", building the surface of his pastels with layers of color and what he describes as "artful scribbling". "This allows me to explore the potential of the paper with brushes, fingers and rags as I add and scrape away layers and fields of color," says Knox. About his work he says "I like the interplay between the act of painting and standing back to observe what is emerging".
