Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Franklin Sinanan

Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will feature its second solo exhibition of paintings by Canadian artist Franklin Sinanan entitled, Images From Within. The exhibition will feature oil on canvas paintings as well as those of mixed media on paper, on view from Feb. 2 - 28, 2007.

Sinanan's work has been described as "visual language" since it incorporates recognizable icons with scribbles of words to convey powerful messages. Not since the 1960s have we seen such frank - almost brutally honest - messages. Sinanan possesses the unique talent to arouse strong emotion from those who see his work.

When pressed to describe Sinanan's paintings many art aficionados feel that they are somewhat reminiscent of the later paintings of Ida Kohlmeyer, with traces of Jean Michel Basquait, though still quite original to Sinanan. Current events of our world color his paintings, which are often challenging and thought-provoking.

Images From Within is a colorful depiction of paintings with a Caribbean derivative which convey love, hate, conflict, joy and harmony. While many of his paintings express love and hope, others are embedded with a strong conviction that evil is present in our world. In a time of extravagant political correctness, his work seems to serve as a time capsule of our current world.
