February Issue 2007

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Laurie Richardson, Sheryl Stalnaker and Dru Warmath

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce a show of new works by Laurie Richardson, Sheryl Stalnaker and Dru Warmath, on view through Feb. 28, 2007. The exhibition will showcase the three women's diverse painting styles and subject matter, emphasizing bold compositions, color and texture.

Laurie Richardson graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Graphic Design and after a decade of work in advertising, she began to pursue painting on a full-time basis. After painting in watercolors for many years, Richardson now primarily uses pastels and oils to express her favorite elements of art, color and composition. In this show, she has explored the relationships between shapes and color using bold compositions. The compositions reflect her graphic design background, approaching each subject in a fresh new way.

Sheryl Stalnaker focuses on the landscape and still life in this show. She captures the mood and light of her chosen subjects with rich and vibrant paint application. Stalnaker combines painting from life with studio work which she feels helps to show energy and immediacy in the creation of her art. A graduate of the University of Washington, Stalnaker's award winning paintings have been shown in juried shows such as the Telfair Museum of Art Fair in Savannah, GA, and at Piccolo Spoleto Exhibitions in Charleston, SC, along with galleries in the Southeast.

Dru Warmath's paintings of the female figure capture moments shared with friends on vacation in the Caribbean in a new series titled, Girls on a Boat. Other pieces reflect her continued focus on color relationships within abstracted shapes. Warmath received her education at the University of South Carolina and has been painting professionally for 15 years. Along with teaching at the Mint Museum of Art and Queens University, in Charlotte, she is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and her paintings are held in numerous corporate and private collections.
