Dog & Horse in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Beth Carlson

The Dog & Horse (formerly Dog Art Dealer), at a new location on Church Street in the historic French Quarter of downtown Charleston, SC, is delighted to announce Beth Carlson's third annual exhibition. Carlson's sporting art, equine paintings and portraits are coveted by many collectors across the country. The exhibit will be on view from Feb. 14 through Mar. 15, 2008.

Robert K. Abbett said the following about Carlson, "Outdoor/Sporting artist Beth Carlson not only knows her dogs and horses and wildlife, but most important, she melds them seamlessly into proper and attractive settings. I also like the breadth of her picture ideas - she can effortlessly go from an Irish farm scene with horses and cattle to a retriever in a shore picture. She has a great feeling for the out of doors no matter where she is."

Carlson's exquisite sensitivity to the subject is apparent in her ability to capture an individual animal's physical characteristics, the individual personality of the particular breed and the mood of the landscape, from rolling hills to marshland. Carlson's scientific knowledge can be attributed to her first career in medicine while her genuine feeling for her subjects and landscapes comes from her purity of heart. In addition, the past thirty years the artist has shown and trained dogs and horses. Her oil paintings range from displaying the most avid hunter's pride in his champion pointer, to soothing the viewers' senses with breath-taking landscapes.

Carlson's work has gained such notoriety to have graced the covers of numerous publications including Gray's Sporting Journal, The American Brittany, The Field Trial Magazine, The Pointing Dog Journal, and The Chronicle of the Horse. She is also an associate member of the nationally recognized organization, Women Artists of the West. Carlson has two paintings in the permanent collection at the Brittany Hall of Fame in The Field Trial Museum in Tennessee. Two beautiful paintings of Shelties in Scottish landscapes will be donated to the prestigious Museum of the Dog in St. Louis, MO. Currently, the artist lives on a farm on the coast of Maine with her husband, Peter, and her dogs and horses.

The Dog & Horse is a unique source for paintings by top quality artists, specializing in dog and/or equine paintings, sculptures and portraiture.
