Sophia's Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Anne H. Neilson

Sophia's Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Angels In Our Midst, featuring works by Charlotte artist Anne H. Neilson, on view from Feb. 12 - 28, 2009. The exhibit is being offered in honor of Barbara Brewton Cameron, recently deceased founder of The Harvest Center. A portion of proceeds from the show's sales will benefit the organization, which serves Charlotte's homeless with food, clothing and ministry.

Neilson's popular "Angel Series" of original oil paintings is inspired by her faith and driven by her desire to serve the less fortunate with her art. Her volunteer work with the homeless at The Harvest Center moved her to paint the first angel of the series.

Neilson's work has steadily grown in popularity and value since she began painting angels in 2004. She has been featured in American Art Collector magazine and has attracted collectors throughout the country. "Angel Series" paintings were commissioned for The Charlotte Symphony's 75th Anniversary "Spirit of the Symphony" award in 2006 and more recently as the anchor piece for the Allegro Foundation's January fundraising auction.

Neilson is represented by five Southeast galleries, including Sophia's Gallery in Charlotte's historic Dilworth neighborhood, and has recently developed a relationship with a prestigious New York City gallery. "Anne's vibrant palette and attention to detail are simply an extension of her vivacious personality," said Scott Buchanan, Managing Partner of Sophia's Gallery. "Viewers are quickly captivated by both her subtly-detailed landscapes depicting the imagery of her travels here and abroad, as well as her incomparable and inspiring Angel paintings, visual manifestations of her faith. She passionately pours her heart and soul into every piece."

Paintings from her "Angel Series" hang in the homes of both Contemporary Christian music star Stephen Curtis Chapman and Ron Hall, Texas art dealer, homelessness activist and author of NYT Bestseller Same Kind of Different as Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together.

"Anne Neilson's painting hangs prominently in my collection with the best artists of this generation," said Ron Hall. "I am drawn to her sense of color and the skill with which she applies paint on the canvas. They are hauntingly beautiful and when I stand before them, I know I am in presence of angels."

"It is a blessing to use this God-given talent to help others," Neilson said of her commitment to supporting The Harvest Center and organizations that aid the rapidly growing homeless population. "I am honored to have known Ms. Cameron and humbled by her good work. She is truly an angel in our midst."

The Harvest Center, located on Brewton Drive in the Genesis Park neighborhood, has served Charlotte's homeless, needy, and neighborhood children since 1992. Pastor Barbara Brewton Cameron was founder of both The Harvest Center and Community Outreach Christian Ministries and was a neighborhood activist who revitalized her troubled community before she passed away Dec. 5, 2007. Run by Cameron's sister, Rosa Marion, The Harvest Center's kitchen feeds over 1,500 people monthly with the help of volunteers and public donations.
