February Issue 2010

The Arts Council of Henderson County in Henderson County, NC, Features Works by Teachers and Students

The Arts Council of Henderson County in Henderson County, NC, will present three thematic exhibits under the heading, Mentors and Students. The exhibits will feature the art of Henderson County students and their teachers (public, private and parochial schools). Art Teachers Create will be presented from Feb. 5 - Mar. 6, 2010; The Art of Our Children Elementary School Exhibit from Mar. 12 27, and Vision 2010 - Artists of Tomorrow (Senior and Middle School Student Exhibition) on view from Apr. 9 - May 1, 2010. All exhibitions will be in the D. Samuel Neill Gallery at The Arts Council of Henderson County.

Art Teachers Create is the first annual exhibition presented by artists and art teachers who provide art instruction to Henderson County children.  This show is open to public, private and parochial art teachers who have students eligible to participate in either the elementary or secondary student exhibitions.  Art will be available for sale.

"Last year, when a middle school teacher delivered her students' works she asked us, what about art teachers? Many of us are working artists and we'd love a chance to show our work," said Jim Faucett, executive director of the Arts Council.  "As we thought about it, it made perfect sense."  The usual entry charged by the Arts Council will be waived for the art teachers, as is the case regarding the student exhibitions.

The Arts Council of Henderson County is a community organization that advocates for the arts and provides opportunities to enrich the lives of children and adults through the arts by offering exhibits, art education and performances. The Arts Council offices and gallery are handicapped accessible.

The Arts Council is supported in part by the North Carolina Arts Council, the State of North Carolina, several funds administered by the Community Foundation of Henderson County, Henderson County, and the Henderson County Travel and Tourism Bureau.
