Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Southern Exposure

Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, will present, CATS!, featuring works, devoted exclusively to the subject of cats, by members of Southern Exposure, on view in the Martha Cloud Chapman Gallery, from Feb. 3 - Apr. 4, 2014. A reception will be held on Feb. 7, from 4-6pm.

Southern Exposure is a group of twelve, mature artists from the upstate South Carolina area who have been exhibiting together for about 30 years. The organization is well recognized regionally for its works in both two and three dimensions. Practically every medium is represented in their work. The organization is made up of Carol Augthun, Jessica Barnes, David Benson, Amy Goldstein-Rice, Cynthia Link, Claire Miller Hopkins, Linda Hudgins, Mark Olencki, Sara Dame Setzer, Doris Turner, Ann Wenz, and David Zacharias. Most are included in the exhibit.

Each member created one or more pieces related to the feline population. Most deal with the more positive aspects of cats, well known to cat lovers. However, David Zacharias, not being particularly enamored of cats, circumvented the subject with an image of a caterpillar. Other works include realistic portrayals, abstract representations, comical images, and historic representations of cats, and deviations from the expected.
