Multi-Media Art Installation by Brad Thomas in Raleigh, NC

Have you questioned the impact of modern technology? Do you wonder what we stand to lose as we progress further into visual space? If so, you have much in common with Charlotte, NC, artist Brad Thomas, designer of the self-contained, multi-media installation EPOCH, on view at 131 East Martin Street, at the corner of Blount Street, in Raleigh, NC's Moore Square Art District. The installation will be on view from Mar. 3 through Apr. 30, 2000.

Designed as a tribute to the new millennium, EPOCH examines our past and future. The visitor, immersed in the space between those poles, experiences visually and aurally our progression from recording history by hand - drawn, then written - toward the use of electronic methods used today. Visitors are encouraged to explore the installation at their own pace, and let the images and sounds of the work linger.

Brad Thomas currently makes his home in Charlotte and was recently appointed the Gallery Director at Davidson College in Davidson, NC. His installations and mixed-media paintings have been shown throughout the United States at venues including: the Cheekwood Museum, Nashville TN; Spirit Square, Charlotte; Winthrop University, Rock Hill SC; and the Green Hill Arts Center, Greensboro, NC. His work is also represented in many private and corporate collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The installation will be open evenings, 5 - 8pm, Thur.- Sat., and noon-3pm, Sun. For more information about EPOCH, check our NC Institutional Gallery listings or contact the Contemporary Art Museum at 919/836-0088, e-mail at (lh@camnc.org) or on the web at (http://www.camnc.org).

EPOCH was funded by the North Carolina Arts Council. The Contemporary Art Museum is funded in-part by its members and friends, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, the City of Raleigh Arts Commission and the North Carolina Arts Council.
