Wolf Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Sandra Baggette

The Wolf Contemporary Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, is featuring works of Sandra Baggette through Mar. 31, 2002. Sandra Baggette is a long time Lowcountry favorite working in oils, and watercolor. She has combined her passions for gardening and painting to bring us visually sensational interpretations of her favorite flowers. The already colorful Wolf Gallery will be welcoming the arrival of Baggette's floral explosion just as Spring arrives in downtown Charleston, and their gated garden courtyard will serve as an appropriate backdrop for her Orchids, Magnolias, Camellias, Roses and Hydrangeas.

Baggette's use of color is both expressive and generous, as she may include up to fifty colors on her pallet at once, explaining, "When I create garden paintings, I want to convey to you my sense of being overwhelmed by the colors, fragrances, and freshness of flowers in the sunshine".

The primary inspiration for her works come from the abundance of the South Carolina Lowcontry, and indeed her own greenhouse and gardens, but she has also found inspiration in her travels to Hong Kong, Bermuda, and Hawaii, and has had the rare privilege of painting in Monet's garden in Giverny, France. Her travels to Hawaii introduced her to the orchids of the Haiku Gardens, inspiring her Orchids series, and she now cultivates orchids in her own greenhouse. "For me, orchids bloom twice: first on the plant and then in a painting," says Baggette.

Baggette is an award-winning exhibitor and has participated in over 100 juried shows nationally. She is a juried member of the SC Watercolor Society, Virginia Watercolor Society, and Potomac Valley Watercolorists. She is also a founding board member of the Art Council of Beaufort County. Her paintings have been exhibited in the US Artists in Embassies Program in Belgium and Honduras.

The Wolf Gallery also features the works of Tate Nation, Carol McGill, Billie Sumner, Sandra Baggette and Tammy Papa.
