Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Elizabeth Marin and J. Paul Sires

Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is proud to present an exhibition of new paintings by Elizabeth Marin and new wall-mounted sculpture by J. Paul Sires from Mar. 7 through Apr. 26, 2003.

Florida artist, Elizabeth Marin creates sumptuous paintings that combine atmospheric qualities with anthropomorphic elements. Her multi-layered painting process begins with color. As she fills the canvas with sections of color, figures and forms emerge. Marin uses color and abstraction to push boundaries of the imagination.

In his new body of work, Paul Sires has translated his visual vocabulary of symbolic forms into wall-mounted sculpture. Described by the artist as "drawings in space", these works reveal a tactile tension between the highly polished frontal plane and organic, textured support structure. Many of the works are intended to capture the spontaneous quality of a gesture drawing yet in a medium that is solid, permanent, in effect frozen in time. The wall-drawings create other drawings as well, in the form of shadows cast onto the wall surface.
