March Issue 2003

Folly Beach, SC, Offers a Renaissance Festival for March

On Mar. 22 & 23, 2003, the Folly Beach Tides of March renaissance festival features an arts and crafts show, wandering minstrels, fencing demos, a costume contest for those who show up in appropriate attire for the renaissance period, and Shakespearean Plays.

On Mar. 22 from 10am-4pm visit the Arts & Crafts Show at the Community Center on Folly Beach, SC, and enjoy the wandering minstrels strolling about the City's beautiful water gardens. At 11am take a short stroll to the Fellowship Hall across the avenue and enjoy the Wee Players, a children's acting troupe, as they present The Play within a Play from Midsummer's Night Dream.

Later take a walk down Center Street and partake in the special dishes prepared for you and generous libations offered by local merchants that all bespeak of a different time but with a Folly flair. Or trade your jeans in at a local shop for a costume more befitting the occasion and become the King or Queen of the Festival at the Costume Contest. In the evening, witness the exceptional performance of Shakespeare's Lovers & Liars presented by the Actor's Theatre of South Carolina at 8pm at the Community Center. Don't worry if time doesn't permit you to see this Shakespearean gem on Saturday, there will be another performance on Sunday, Mar. 23 at 5pm, at the Community Center for those who might have missed it the previous night.
