Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, Features Works by Werner Bontiz and Michele Drivon

Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, will feature photography by Werner Bontiz and porcelain ceramic works by Michele Drivon, on view from Mar. 16 through Apr. 30, 2004.

Bontiz's two lives as a textile engineer and as a photographer compliment each other; both deal with color, shapes and patterns and both require creativity and technical perfection. "I love the graphic impact of black and white photography but I don't want to miss the joy and celebration of color, says Werner.

Werner captures the image on medium format film. His Mamiya 645 camera gives him a negative that is almost 3 times the size of a 35mm digital or film negative. This results in the superior detail and color depth that his pictures display. His own digital process and archival digital printing gives him total control over the final picture without the limiting dependency on outside color labs.

Michele Drivon

Michele Drivon comes from being a Political Science major to working as a potter. After college, she was determined to learn more about art and to try her hand at something creative. She also has a strong music background which has taught her an appreciation for nuance, expression within technical skill, and for layering of small parts to create a richness of voice.

Drivon has chosen porcelain as her clay body because of it's creamy consistency, the skill it demands, the purity of its surface, and the clarity it brings to glaze color. Her current palette of springtime colors celebrates new beginnings. Drivon came to Asheville, NC, in the summer of 2001 to be a Resident Artist at the Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts. She is currently enrolled in the Ceramics Program at Haywood Community College.
