SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, Features Works by Loren DiBenedetto

SOLO Art Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC, features, Loren DiBenedetto:Recent Works, a solo exhibition featuring her recent oil paintings. The exhibit opens on Mar. 12 and continues through Apr. 24, 2004.

DiBenedetto is an incredibly accomplished realist and her paintings of flowers, fruits, vegetables and landscapes will be included in this exhibition. Born in Carteret, NJ, she was classically trained in painting when she attended DuCret School of the Arts in nearby Plainfield. DiBenedetto graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and then continued her studies at the National Academy School of Fine Arts and the Art Student League, both located in New York City.

In 1990, DiBenedetto moved to NC and often uses the beautiful marshes and rivers of the state as subjects for her landscapes. She is known for her bold still life paintings, vivid floral compositions and dramatic life drawings.

DiBenedetto has won numerous awards in regional juried competitions and has been accepted to exhibit in national shows. A member of the Oil Painters of America as well as regional art guilds, she has gathered a strong following in the past twenty years. She has also been commissioned to do a variety of portraits, with recent subjects including a well-known folk artist, children and pets.

"As an artist, it's my intention to successfully paint light falling on objects, creating a dynamic composition. For me it's all about how light affects the subject. I am a realist who paints to exaggerate reality in a large format. The viewer's impression of a piece is the most important component of my work," says DiBenedetto.

The exhibition will feature paintings in various sizes, from 14 x 18 inches up to 30 x 40 inches, and with both vertical and horizontal orientations. Recently, DiBenedetto has been combining her richly detailed images of fruits with her expressive cloud imagery, for an effect that is both real and surreal.
