Trizec Properties in Charlotte, NC, Offers Annual Exhibition

Shaun Cassidy

Drawing high-caliber Southeastern artists together, Trizec Properties in Charlotte, NC, continues to support contemporary art in their annual exhibition on display at Bank of America Plaza and First Citizens Bank, on Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte, through Nov., 2004.

Surface matters - the vast expanse between looking and seeing is contracted when the artist uses surface as a means to draw the viewer in. In the exhibition, Surface Matters, the 5th Annual Art Exhibition curated by Joie Lassiter at the Bank of America Plaza, artists from the Southeast explore surface and materials challenging the viewer to look deeper and stretch their awareness. Newspaper, steel, concrete, monofilament, fiber, acrylics and oil are all employed to this end. Monumental cocoons and canvases invite the viewer to envelope their senses in the created environment, whilst the 'Listening Benches' provide space for contemplation.

Artists participating in the exhibit include: Lynne Riding (SC), Barbara Duval (SC), Robben McAdam Richards (SC), Shaun Cassidy (SC), Marya Roland (NC), Beth Ross Johnson (NC), Ashlynn Browning (NC), and Nitin Jayaswal (FL).

Monumental baskets by NC artist John Skau will be shown in First Citizens Bank lobby. This venue provides a perfect forum for these monumental works; this exciting exhibit (the likes of which is seldom seen in Charlotte) is not to be missed.
