March Issue 2006

Hilton Head Art Gallery on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Rod Kerr

Original oils and acrylics by Rod Kerr will be featured in Paris, Pears and Passions, which opens on Mar. 2, 2006, at the Hilton Head Art Gallery, on Hilton Head Island, SC. His work will be displayed through Mar. 30, 2006.

Kerr brings a fascinating palette of vivid colors and complex sensations to his canvases. He shares an eclectic and very personal perspective with his viewers, using dramatically powerful images drawn from his prairie childhood, the dense richness of an Ontario forest and the beauty and bold shapes of laughing children on a windswept beach.

"Visitors will truly be drawn into his vibrant work," said Chris Mullaney, president of the Hilton Head Art Gallery. "I am sure patrons will relate strongly to the images Mr. Kerr presents in his work. He is so passionate about his paintings and that passion is what you see in his images."

Kerr received his formal education in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and spent 31 years as an air traffic controller at the Toronto Area Control Centre, before retiring to devote more time to his paintings. He is a member of several art societies in both Canada and the United States. Regionally, Kerr's work has been shown in galleries in Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island; and in Savannah, GA. In Canada, his work has been shown in galleries in White Rock, British Columbia; Orillia, Niagara on the Lake and Toronto, Ontario. Kerr and his wife have residences in Niagara on the Lake, Canada, and on Hilton Head Island.
