The Crescent Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Chris Groves

The Crescent Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, will present the exhibit, Recent Paintings, featuring works by Charleston, SC, artist, Chris Groves, on view from Mar. 19 through Apr. 14, 2009.

This will be Groves' first show in Spartanburg, though his works have been delighting the community since The Crescent Gallery opened in Sept. 2008.

The exhibition will feature 15 paintings presenting landscape scenes from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Carolina coasts. Many of Groves' paintings have an old world feel to the composition, especially in the still lives. His landscapes pull the viewer into the picture and allow them to stand in the water or field next to the painter.

Having grown up in Colorado and the low country of Louisiana surrounded by mountains and the ocean, allowed Groves, who latched onto art at an early age, to gain a wonderful world view and translate it on to canvas. After graduating from the University of Colorado, he lived and worked in Colorado, all the while continuing to study and hone his artistic skills. The artist also took part in a private two year mentorship with Jay Moore, which he says was a turning point in his career. He has been commissioned to paint the 10th and 11th circuit Bishops of Colorado.
