Somerhill Gallery in Durham, NC, Offers Exhibit Focused on the Color Red

Somerhill Gallery in Durham, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Seeing Red: A Group Exhibition, on view through Mar. 27, 2009.

Considered a primary color, red processes the longest wavelength of light discernable by the naked eye. Beyond this length, it becomes infrared.

Peter Butler

The artists featured in this exhibition are: Paul Aho, Michael Barringer, Carol Bechtel, Peter Butler, Kevin Collins, Jason Craighead, Mark Elliott, Norbert Irvine, Herb Jackson, Kenny Pieper, Tremain Smith, George Snyder and Kate Worm.

The exhibition features artists who work in a variety of media; from Kenny Pieper's beautiful mouth-blown glass goblets and objects, with Kevin Collins' amazingly crafted porcelain flowers, to George Snyder's iconic colorful poles with giant Lifesavers-inspired toppers.  The majority of the artists showcased in the exhibition are skilled painters, and their subject matter differs widely. In the abstract camp, there is Aho, Bechtel, Craighead, Jackson and Smith.  In between we have Barringer and Elliott, who are certainly inspired from both abstract and figurative matters. And then there is the art of Butler, Irvine and Worm who have a beautiful way of showing us the figurative world through their eyes.
