March Issue 2010

Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Deborah Palmer

Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, City Perspectives, an exhibition of recent oil paintings by Deborah Palmer, on view from Mar. 4 - 12, 2010.

Three centuries of architectural styles in downtown Charleston served as the inspiration for this show. Palmer's love of American architecture, her skill in linear perspective and her eye for light and shadow is evident in these new paintings. "Charleston's skyline is unique among America's cities," says Palmer. "Rooflines are uncluttered by high rises and so Charleston's historic buildings are exposed to the sky and the wonderful light of the low country."

This special exhibition marks Palmer's seventh anniversary as a regular exhibitor at the Spencer Art Gallery. Since returning to her painting in 2000 after 30 years in the commercial art world, she has become an exhibiting member of the Charleston and Mt. Pleasant Artist Guilds and the Artist's Alliance of East Hampton (NY). She is also a member of the Charleston Outdoor Painters Association (COPA).

Palmer has won numerous awards in juried shows and has had several pieces commissioned from patrons both in Charleston and the New York area. Her work has been exhibited at Guild Hall in Easthampton, NY, the Art Center in Pelham, NY, L'Orangerie Gallery in Greenport, NY, the Sandpiper Gallery on Sullivan's Island and at the North Charleston City Gallery.
