City Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Exhibit of Works by Vanessa Albury

The City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibit of silver gelatin prints by local artist Vanessa Albury from Apr. 13 through May 15, entitled The Passages Series.

Albury was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She moved to Charleston in the fall of 1997 to attend the College of Charleston. Currently at the College Albury serves as the president of the Visual Arts Club and is the photography lab assistant. She has also acted as an assistant to the 2000 Society for Photographic Education Southeast Regional Conference. Albury's work has been exhibited in several local and regional exhibitions.

Albury comments on her work: "I revisit mysteries and question the essence of being over time through my photography. As my understanding of my work is continuously shaping, so too are my subjects. The longer a room or a building exists, the more its intrinsic identity changes, which is felt more than seen. I believe all matter to be part of an interlacing system and adjusting perpetually to being touched by activity and inactivity. I find honesty in the relationship between lapses of time and space as experience in tattered doors, walls, and windows. I find serenity and respite in them. This interaction is intangible and familiar. Though the past is irrevocable, the effects are ephemeral and change with every instant. In trying to still this experience with my images, I chase any lost congruence or secrets in my own experience through a search for insight into the collective human existence."
