New paintings by Eva Carter to Show at Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC

Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, is proud to present new work by abstract expressionist Eva Carter in the exhibition, River Passions and Dreams, on view from Apr. 27 through June 10, 2001. Her annual spring show will feature never seen before oils on canvas and works on paper. Always dynamic in her approach and response, the artist has created paintings that are her boldest and most emotional to date. Carter's paintings possess a particular echo of light, poetic brushwork and symphonies of rich color.

This new body of work has a special quality and direction as a result of where they were created. As of last fall, Eva Carter moved her studio, formerly located in her gallery downtown, out to Wadmalaw Island. The new studio site is an ideal environment for the artist to experiment and develop. The sounds and smells of the Lowcountry, pristine landscape, and natural light all help to inspire truly magnificent work. This exhibition offers a new perspective on how a Charleston artist emotionally responds to her environment. Carter is offering a refreshing and powerful body of work based on nature, moods and dreams in her own unique voice.

Carter has a tremendous love and passion for creating. This is obvious in her devotion to consistently producing new and exciting work. She has been painting since 1959, and says she never plans to "retire." One can experience Carter's work in person in her downtown Charleston Gallery.
