USC To Hold 47th Annual Faculty And Student Art Auction April 23

More than 100 pieces of sculpture,jewelry, photography, paintings, prints, ceramics and iron works made by University of South Carolina art faculty and students will go to the highest bidders Tuesday, April 23, at the 47th annual USC Art Auction.

The popular annual event will begin at 7pm with a preview party in the Campus Room of Capstone House on the USC campus. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided. The auction will begin at 8pm. The art will be on public display beginning at 1pm.

Auctioneers for the 2002 auction include Dot Ryall, executive director of the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington counties; Margaret Skove, executive director of the Columbia Museum of Art; Warner Wells, executive vice president with First Citizens Bank; and John O'Neill, former chairman of USC's art department. Boyd Saunders, retired USC art professor, will serve as master of ceremonies. This year's event is organized by Bob Lyon, chairman of the USC art department, and Mana Hewitt, gallery director for the department.

The event is sponsored by the art department in USC's College of Liberal Arts. Proceeds from the auctioned works are divided between the artists and the USC art scholarship fund. Credit cards and checks will be accepted. Last year's event raised more than $14,000.
