Waterfront Gallery Artists Hosting Art Auction to Benefit Storefront School for the Arts

Waterfront Gallery, a member-owned gallery featuring some of Charleston, SC's finest artists, will hold an art auction to benefit the Storefront School for the Arts, a year-round arts education program of the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, and Creative Spark.

Each of Waterfront Gallery's artists will donate a painting to be sold to benefit the Storefront School fro the Arts. All proceeds will go to the school. These 18 paintings are being put on the Waterfront Gallery website at (www.waterfrontartgallery.com) and are currently on view in the gallery at 215 -B East Bay Street, near the open air market.

This will be a silent auction with bids taken from April 15 and ending on May 3 at 10pm, during the May Art Walk, which includes a reception throughout the evening, sponsored by O'Hara & Flynn Wine Merchants and Johnson and Wales University Culinary Institute.

The artists of Waterfront Gallery have close ties to the Charleston community and have been active supporters of the non-profit arts community on an individual basis for many years. This is the first collaborative charitable effort that the artists of the gallery have pursued and the decision to conduct this auction came out of the adoption of the gallery's two-year management plan this past year. Inspired by the outpouring of support to New York for the Sept. 11th tragedy, the Waterfront Gallery decided to offer their help on a local level to a non-profit arts group in Charleston which offers arts education classes in eight disciplines to students residing in five of Charleston's housing authority communities. Proceeds from the May 3 art auction will benefit the Storefront School for the Arts program and the artists of Waterfront Gallery will continue their support of this project throughout the year by working with the children of Storefront in "hands-on" teaching sessions throughout the year.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Storefront School for the Arts project by participating in Waterfront Gallery's art auction, May 3, 2002, from 5-8pm at 215 East Bay Street in downtown Charleston, SC.
