Davidson College in Davidson, NC, Presents Several Exhibitions this Spring

The William H. Van Every Gallery at Davidson College in Davidson, NC, is proud to present the new exhibition entitled, Excerpts, featuring works by Marco Breuer, on view through Apr. 16, 2003. Then from Apr. 23 and continuing through May 7, 2003, the exhibition, "2003 Davidson College Annual Student Art Exhibition", will be on view. Davidson's Edward M. Smith Gallery will be presenting the exhibition, "Senior Visual Art Majors Exhibitions", on view through May 7, 2003.

Marco Breuer is a New York-based artist who produces camera-less photographic works that are as much about painting and drawing as they are about the photographic process.

Breuer utilizes a wide variety of tools such as heat guns, scrapers, and sandpaper to burn, abrade and manipulate both color and black and white photographic papers. Following the various "actions," the works are exposed to light and submitted to a developing solution. The resulting works are brilliant abstractions that exploit the inherent properties of the photographic materials.

Breuer has exhibited extensively in the US and Europe. His work is represented in many private and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

Breuer will create a site-specific installation in addition to a special artist publication that will accompany this exhibition.

Starting Apr. 23 in the William H. Van Every Gallery and continuing through May 7, 2003, the exhibition, 2003 Davidson College Annual Student Art Exhibition, will be on view. The exhibition features works by art students at Davidson College.

Also on view in the Edward M. Smith Gallery at Davidson College will be the Senior Visual Art Majors Exhibitions.

The exhibitions include exhibits by Morgan Croney through Apr. 6; Meika Fields from Apr. 9 - 15; Nate Ramirez from Apr. 18 - 28; and Layton Hower from May 1 - 7.
