Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Emily K. Jenkins

Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present an exhibition entitled, Big Bold Abstracts, featuring paintings by Emily K. Jenkins. The exhibit opens Apr. 11 and continues through June 14, 2003.

Jenkins is a young contemporary artist whose strong abstract paintings celebrate color and stroke. The show will include recent paintings, using multiple layers of oil and charcoal to create dynamic and complex contemporary pieces.

"My work uses pure color and the act of pure painting to create harmony and dissonance in a visual language. The combinations of colors set up a movement among contrasting shades. In my work, color has its own rhythms, its own structure, and should be celebrated," states Jenkins. She is one of few painters in Charleston to pursue abstract, non-objective art. Her bright abstract style creates a bold explosion of color and stroke. Jenkins studied studio art at Wake Forest University, and has been painting with oils for over 11 years.

Jenkins' work has been exhibited at Tiemaker's Gallery, a solo show at the Charleston City Gallery in 2002, and the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition in 2000 and 2001.

Tiemaker's Gallery, 83 Spring Street, is a contemporary gallery off the beaten track featuring works by Emily Jenkins, David Edwards, and Matt Overend. Tiemaker's has been bringing contemporary art with soul to Charleston since 2000.
