University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, Offers 16th Annual USC Showcase

The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, enriches the lives of the Palmetto State through research, teaching, community outreach and cultural performances. On Apr. 12, 2003, South Carolinians are invited to USC Showcase, the university's annual open house and celebration, to enjoy and learn about the many ways that USC touches the lives of South Carolinians.

Set for the historic Horseshoe, the 10am-3pm event is free and open to the public. The USC Showcase will feature activities, performances and exhibits appropriate for all ages. Under the shade of the Horseshoe's canopy of trees, families can enjoy festival foods and performances by many of USC's ensembles, including Caribbean steel-drum music by Palmetto Pans, jazz by the Left Bank Big Band, gospel by Higher Harmony, the Concert Choir and the USC Dance Company. Faculty and staff at more than 70 booths, which highlight research, outreach programs and degree and career opportunities, will answer questions. Many of the displays include demonstrations and feature high-tech presentations, and many colleges hold open houses. Campus tours, storytelling and face-painting and other activities for young children, round out the fun.

USC Showcase is an excellent opportunity for college-bound high-school students and parents to visit with representatives who can discuss admissions requirements, financial aid, scholarships and South Carolina Honors College. Admissions information sessions will be at 10am and 11am in Rutledge Chapel. Residence halls open for tours include East Quad, Preston Residential College, Maxcy, Capstone, Patterson, Towers, Wade Hampton and Bates House.
