Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Takes Part in Public Art Project

Wickwire fine art/folk art gallery in Hendersonville, NC, is participating in a public art project called, Bearfootin' in Hendersonville, which will take place Apr. 25 through Nov. 8, 2003.

Wickwire, located on Main Street in Hendersonville is sponsoring one of nearly thirty community "Bearfriends" in the first ever Bearfootin' in Hendersonville 2003, a family-fun-and-friendly public art exhibit produced by Downtown Hendersonville, Inc. and the Henderson County Arts Council. On tree-lined sidewalks, the decorated bears will show the creativity of those members of the community, sponsors and artists, who have collaborated to bring the public this temporary display of individually different ornamented and adorned bears.

The bears are approximately 5 feet long, 3 feet high, 20 inches wide and weigh a hearty 35 lbs.

Wickwire gallery's Bearfootin' bear is "out of hibernation" and poised for painting by Sarah Sneeden. An accomplished artist with versatility and a distinctive style, Sneeden has offered her time and talent to paint with acrylics a completely 'bedecked' bear! "The Bearfootin' bear," says Shirley Palmer-Hill, owner of Wickwire Gallery, "is a gift from our gallery to the community. Sarah is working on a friendly bear design that uniquely portrays the Gallery's traditional theme and that will stand as an original, popular addition to this exciting historic downtown Hendersonville event."

Artist, Sarah Sneeden a North Carolina resident since 1967 graduated from Centenary College in New Jersey, the Famous Artists School, the New York Institute of Photography, and the Portrait Institute of New York. Annual workshops in the West (Montana, Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico and California) have added educational experience and new ideas to her painting repertoire. A voracious reader, Sarah's extensive art library (close to 500 volumes) keeps the art world at her fingertips. Her oil paintings have hung in shows from coast-to-coast from the 10th Annual National Juried Oil Painters of America Show in Palm Desert, California to the Hilton Head Art League's Annual Juried Show in South Carolina. She was also on the Mountain Arts Studio Tour, Hendersonville, NC. She likes watercolors, prima color pencils, and pastels for sketching but prefers oils for her finished pieces. When she can find a sunny spot, Sarah's favorite way of working is en plein air working on location where she can study firsthand the play of light on her subject.
