Clay on Camden in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Robert Hasselle and Tom Speck

Clay on Camden in Charlotte, NC, presents fun, masculine works by Robert Hasselle and Tom Speck from Apr. 2 through May 31, 2004.

Ever gotten a divorce? Artists Tom Speck and Robert Hasselle have. Speck, a painter, and Hasselle, a sculptor and ceramic artist, attended high school in Memphis, TN, together and have known each other for forty years. Clay on Camden presents their first show together featuring works that both artists created while going through their respective divorces.

Tom Speck, who has an MFA from the University of Tennessee, had not dated for three years after a nasty divorce. One night he went out, got lucky, came home and painted a gorilla with a goofy grin, beating his chest with a volcano erupting in the background. Speck currently resides in Asheville, NC.

Robert Hasselle got his MFA at Tulane University and worked at The University of Cincinnati before moving to Rock Hill, SC. During his divorce he did a series of airplane and flying sculptures. He later realized the significance of the airplanes as symbols of escape. A former professor at Ohio State University and Cincinnati Art Academy, Hasselle has worked in clay and bronze sculpture for nearly four decades.
