Talley's Cafe in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Laura Norris

Talley's Cafe in Charlotte, NC's SouthEnd, will present an exhibition of oil paintings by Laura Norris entitled, Ageless Beauty, from Apr. 1 - 30, 2004. The exhibit will depict Norris' interpretation of the concept that age is beautiful.

Norris grew up in Northwest Indiana near Valparaiso. She began to exhibit an affinity for art at a very young age when to her mother's chagrin she began to hone her young skills on the wallpaper. Norris has since found restraint and control in her art; the walls of her patrons are in little if any danger.

As a child Norris illustrated a children's book called, Mommy there's a Monster in My Room. During her preteen years she began to study oil painting under a private professional tutor. It was soon apparent that Norris' abilities went beyond talent, and entered into the arena best described as gifted. She entered several school and county art contests, always achieving high honors.

Norris moved to Charlotte along with her family in the summer of 1997. She attended Bible Baptist Christian School in Matthews, NC, and graduated in 1999. Following high school, she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, because of the school's reputation of excellence in the fine arts. While in college Norris had her work placed on a yearbook cover, participated in several group exhibitions, and achieved several awards including, best of show at the Piedmont Interstate Art Fair. For her senior show her art department honored her with a solo art exhibit in the Sargent Art Building at BJU. Norris graduated from Bob Jones, Magna Cum Laude, in 2002, finishing her BA in merely three years.

Upon graduation, Norris was married, returned to Bible Baptist to begin teaching art, and began Norris Art Enterprise putting her gifts to work. She spent her first year and a half working on commissioned pieces and is now seeking to display in local venues. Her work has recently been shown in the Charlotte Artist's Society Founder's Hall exhibit at Bank of America in Uptown Charlotte.

Norris now resides in Matthews and is constantly working on new works. She is currently working on a new series depicting area churches, cathedrals, and possibly congregations entitled, The Bible Belt.

Norris is a member of both the Charlotte Art League and The Charlotte Artist's Society. Realism is the predominant style in her art work. Her classic technique coupled with her stunning originality produce images which far surpass the status quo. A Laura Norris original is sure to be a treasured piece in your collection, providing visual enrichment for many years. Come and join us in indulging in the art of Laura Norris.
