USC - Spartanburg in Spartanburg, SC, Plans First Senior Art Exhibition

For more than 10 years now, Jane Nodine has sponsored an annual student art competition at the University of South Carolina Spartanburg in Spartanburg, SC. As an associate professor of art and director of the USC -Spartanburg Art Gallery, Nodine organizes the exhibit, which includes a variety of media such as drawing, illustration, photography, prints, graphic design and ceramics.

When planning for this year's exhibit, Nodine realized that it needed to be expanded to properly reflect the growth and development at the University. USC-Spartanburg began offering a bachelor's degree in graphic design in 2002, making it the only such program in the state, and opened its Visual Arts Center in fall 2003.

For the first time in USC-Spartanburg history the gallery will present an exhibition dedicated to the artwork of graduating seniors. The 2004 Senior Art Exhibition will be held Apr. 6 through May 7, 2004, in the University Gallery and Performing Arts Center Lobby.

"This year we have seven participants and the most exciting thing is that this is our first group of students to graduate from the new graphic design program," said Nodine. "USC-Spartanburg is producing highly qualified artists and that is very evident in their work."

The students are responsible for the production of this event and each student will have a section in the gallery to display their work that will include a variety of media such as drawing, illustration, photography, prints, graphic design and ceramics. The exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for viewers to purchase good works of art at great prices at the brink of the careers of these very talented individuals.

Students participating in the Senior Art Exhibit are Tammy Miller of Landrum, SC, Mark Newman of Inman, SC, Lia Thao of Spartanburg, SC, Amy Painter of Spartanburg, SC, Andrew Barton of Greenville, SC, Latressa Wright of Wellford, SC, and Marcella Gonzalez of Spartanburg, SC.
