April Issue 2005

Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, Features Works by Wendy Whitson

Conn Gallery's next "insider" show presents works by Wendy Whitson. The show opens on Apr. 2 and continues through May 13, 2005.

Whitson's smile and infectious laugh is invitation enough into her studio; then once you're in, her paintings command your attention, and keep your gaze with their warm colors and lovely composition.

Whitson's paintings convey the essence of a landscape, while eliminating much of its' detail. Her pieces are based on the first impression, or the large shapes you see when your eyes are half open. Influences for Whitson's work are from impressionism and abstract expressionism, including the work of Paul Cezanne, Joan Mitchell, and Gustav Klimt.

Whitson is a working artist in the River District in Asheville, NC. She worked in the fields of architecture, graphic design and photography before turning full time to painting. Her work is in several private and corporate collections, and is included in more upcoming exhibits in 2005.
