Iris Photo + Digital Imaging in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Tim Barnwell

Iris Photo + Digital Imaging in Asheville, NC, will present the exhibition, American Landscapes, featuring photographs by well-known Asheville photographer, Tim Barnwell, from Apr. 6 through June 10, 2006.

Barnwell's material ranges from scenes of traditional Appalachian mountain life to landscapes of the American West, most showing the influence of man on the land.

Barnwell was born in Franklin, NC. He received a degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina - Asheville in 1977, and has been a commercial and fine art photographer since 1988.

From 1980 - 1988, Barnwell was director of the Appalachian Photographic Workshops which brought master photographers to WNC, including Cole Weston, Ernst Hass, George Tice, Galen Rowell, Jerry Uelsmann, John Shaw, and Art Wolfe, to mane a few. He was also a writer and photographer for The Arts Journal from 1977 - 1981. Barnwell has had over sixty articles and one thousand photographs published in magazines including: Aperture, Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, and American Craft.

Barnwell's photographic works are included in numerous public and private collections including: Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Mint Museums, The High Museum of Art, and Bank of America. His works has been in over 65 one-man and group exhibitions since 1977.

Barnwell's book, The Face of Appalachia: Portraits from the Mountain Farm, was published in 2003 by W.W. Norton & Co. and a second book, On Earth's Furrowed Brow, is due out in 2006.
