Lowcountry Artists Ltd. in Charleston, SC, Re-Models, Re-Opens - with New Artists

Change is afoot at Lowcountry Artists, Ltd. in Charleston, SC, and it's all about the numbers! The artists at Lowcountry Artists Ltd. have much to celebrate: new members, a new décor, a Twenty-fifth anniversary and record sales in Feb. From Apr. 13 - 15, 2007, there will be a Grand Re-opening Celebration welcoming the six new members that join nationally recognized, award-winning artists: Anne Hightower-Patterson, Dawn Caldwell, Bonnie Stabler and Lynne Hardwick as owner - exhibitors in this historic Charleston gallery.

After a record retirement of several charter exhibitors, this core team of artists knew that Lowcountry deserved to remain in its place in the Charleston gallery scene and set out to find new members that shared their vision to join a contemporary gallery with a Southern flair yet full of new energy and, of course, great art.

The search was intense but fruitful. The gallery is proud to welcome these six new exciting artists to its fold: Norma Ballentine, Rana Jordahl, Joni Purk, working mainly in oil; Rick Dean, in photography, and Lynda English and Jackie Wukela, working in oil, colored pencil and acrylic. In addition to the six new members, other exciting additions to the gallery include glasswork by Robbie Claire, and pottery by the husband and wife team of Sasha and Tari Federer.

While traditionally the gallery has been limited to Charleston area artists, English, Wukela and the Federers are from Florence, SC; and Joni Purk who splits her time between Charlotte, NC and Charleston. They share many years of professional work, showing regionally and nationally and bring new excitement to the collection.

"We are thrilled about all of our new members, the work they offer the gallery and the energy and excitement that they bring to us," says gallery board president, Anne Hightower-Patterson.

To complete this transition, it was decided that the gallery also needed a new look. So for two weeks in January, the gallery embarked on a complete renovation. "With this new energy, we needed a new look, so we stripped that gallery to its walls and started fresh," exclaimed Hightower-Patterson. "The customer response to our new look has been extraordinary."

And it all must be paying off. In what is the shortest month of the year and typically the slower end of the season, Lowcountry Artists also has the distinction of celebrating a record month in sales. "We are so proud of the new work that all our artists have brought to our customers," says Hightower-Patterson. "We are on the right track and look forward to continued new growth in the years to come."

So turning tradition on its ear the Lowcountry artist-owners have chosen to celebrate it's re-opening of the new gallery by showing works with a "13" theme since the co-op owners feel that it will be a lucky day instead of the dreaded black Friday.

"2007 is a big year for us here at Lowcountry Artists," says Hightower-Patterson. "We are the oldest artist-owned and operated co-op gallery in the city and have been running since 1982. So join us as we start anew."
