Watermark Hypnosis Center and Serenity Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Beth Hinson and Sara Bonk

Art will fill the senses as Watermark Hypnosis Center and Serenity Gallery, in Columbia, SC, celebrates Artista Vista with an exhibit of jewelry by Sara Bonk and photography by Beth Hinson, beginning on Apr. 26, 2007, from 5-9pm and Apr. 28 from 11am-4pm. Hinson's show will run through May 11, but Bonk's jewelry designs will be on view during Artista Vista.

"This is the premier art event of the year in the Vista, and we are excited to be offering a feast for the eyes," said Fredric Mau, co-owner of Watermark.
Bonk began experimenting with alternative materials and objects to create jewelry some 17 years ago. She is also a sculptor, and many of her art designs display a grasp of balance and beauty that go beyond a simple necklace or pair of earrings to become expressive, wearable art. Bonk uses semi-precious stones (hematite, rose quartz, jaspers, agates, serpentine, onyx, amethyst, turquoise, aventurine, lapis), fresh water pearls, glass, plastics, wood, and mixed metals such as stainless steel wire and cable, aluminum, copper, silver, palladium and gold-plated beads in her designs.

Bonk's jewelry has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States as well as in the museum stores of the Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution; the Atlanta Botanical Gardens; the Knoxville Museum of Art; the High Museum of Art in Atlanta; the Gallery of Functional Art in Santa Monica, CA; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens, Smithsonian Institution; and the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, among others.

Beth Hinson's photography features the brilliant colors created by natural subjects, and was recently awarded top honors in Lake Murray Columbia Magazine's photography contest. She began focusing on photography nearly two decades ago, and soon discovered that some of her favorite subjects were natural and wildlife images - from a butterfly in her back yard to a flower discovered on the top of a mountain, or a snake brought to her attention by one of her two sons.

In recent years Hinson's interest turned to macro photography. Many of her photos explore the simple beauty of close-up images of flowers, or reveal the complex details of insects or frogs with little or no background, showing fine points that would otherwise never be seen. Hinson will be showing her art in both print and notecard form during the show.

The gallery will also participate in the South Carolina Philharmonic's Painted Violins project by sponsoring one of the 30 violins which will be on display and available for purchase during the Columbia Festival of the Arts. Columbia artist Anastasia Chernoff will apply her distinct three-dimensional design to one of the violins to create a unique piece. Violins purchased through the Painted Violins project will benefit the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra.
