The West End Gallery in Greenville, SC, Features Works by Henry Asencio

The West End Gallery in Greenville, SC, is presenting New Work, featuring works by figurative painter Henry Asencio, on view from Apr. 12 through May 5, 2007.

Contemporary painter, Henry Asencio, has emerged as one of the most intriguing young artists working today. Avant-garde in execution, his work blends the classical ideals of figurative painting with a unique, contemporary style revered in his art.

Graduating from San Francisco Art Academy in 1999, Asencio earned a living as a portrait artist early in his career. After the birth of his daughter, the painter became determined to push himself as a fine artist. His open brushwork, sweeping color, use of texture and precise drawing skills have resulted in a body of work that has earned international accolades.

"When I do a brush stroke it has a sense of poetry, rhyming in accord with my passion, rendering every part of the painting differently," says Asencio. "I don't want people to fall in love with the setting but with the humanity... to feel the gamut of emotion. I want my paintings to be a catalyst to bring forth their own emotions."
