City of Rock Hill (SC) Features Works by Marcia Kort Buike and Martha Manco

The City Hall Gallery in Rock Hill, SC, will features works by Marcia Kort Buike and Martha Manco, both of Tega Cay, SC, on view through Apr. 30, 2008. The exhibit are sponsored by the Arts Council of York County.

Marcia Buike

Marcia Buike began her artistic career as a graphic designer but eventually moved into painting with acrylic on canvas. She has been painting and showing her artwork since 2002. She has studied watercolor with local artists Kathy Caudill, Sandy Brindle, Anne Rhodes, John Lomax and Nancy Couick, and has recently added pastels to her palette. Buike is a member of both the Charlotte Art League and the Tega Cay Art League and is actively involved in promoting a newly formed art guild in the Rock Hill area. She accepts commissions for portraits of people, homes and pets, as well as other subjects. Web design for small-scale projects is also in her repertoire.

Martha Manco

Martha Manco's work features portraits and original oil paintings. She is a member of the Charlotte Art League and a founding member of the Tega Cay Art League. Manco is also involved in the formation of a new league taking shape in Rock Hill. She relates that the inspiration for her paintings comes from the desire to capture and reflect the harmonious beauty of nature and people. Manco says, "I strive to help the viewer feel the place or mood, and experience the serenity of our natural surroundings." She works from life and on location as much as possible, but captures more fleeting scenes using film and digital photography. Manco will later bring these scenes to life by using her memory of the moment in addition to the photographs. Manco is also available for commissioned portraits and murals.
