Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Dorothy Chapman Josey

An exhibit of still life and landscape paintings by Dorothy Chapman Josey will open Apr. 16 at Carolina Gallery on Morgan Square in downtown Spartanburg, SC. The paintings will remain on exhibition until May 9, 2009.

Josey grew up in Spartanburg and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia in 1975. She moved to New York City in 1980 and worked from 1981-1988 at Time magazine where she was Deputy Art Director of cover art.

In 1988, Josey moved back to Spartanburg, and in the fall of 1995 she started painting and drawing again after a 20-year hiatus. She has continued her studies at Converse College and at the New York Studio School under its dean, Graham Nickson. Her book cover painting for the Hub City Anthology II won a national award. Josey is also a well-known portrait painter, represented by the Rutledge Street Gallery in Camden, SC, and Carolina Gallery in Spartanburg.
