Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Offers Plein Air Exhibition

Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, WET PAINT 2009, an exhibit of works by Albert Handell, Gil Dellinger, Kevin Macpherson, and Mary Whyte, created in Charleston during the sixth annual plein air paint out, WET PAINT, held between Mar. 23 - 27, 2009. The exhibit will be on view through Apr. 25, 2009.

The artists painted in different locations in and around the Charleston area for one week; typical locations might include, lower Church Street, Shem Creek, Magnolia Gardens, Folly Beach, or Upper King Street.

Albert Handell is a well-known Santa Fe artist, teacher, and writer. His work is included in many important collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Syracuse Museum of Art, the Utah Museum of Fine Art, and the Woodstock Artist Association's permanent collection. Since 1961, he has had more than 30 solo exhibitions. He has received more than seventy awards and prizes, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Pastel by the Pastel Society of the West Coast and a Silver Medal in the Laguna Plein Air Invitational. Handell is one of only three living artists who have been elected into the Pastel Hall of Fame, Pastel Society of America. His work has been included in numerous books and periodicals including Southwest Art, Art of the West, and American Artist.

Gil Dellinger, a celebrated artist and teacher, has participated in over 300 group and one person exhibitions. He has inspired many young artists as Professor of Art at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. After receiving the Distinguished Faculty Award for professional contributions and teaching excellence in 1990, and the Everhart Teacher/Scholar Award in 1995, Dellinger retired from teaching in 2000. He has participated in the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America Show in Tahoe, CA, the Plein Air Masters Mentor Program in the Vienne Region of France, and the Cumberland Island Paint-Out in Georgia. In 2007, he assisted in organizing and participated in "From the Heart", at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA, the first museum show of the Plein-Air Painters of America.

Kevin Macpherson, one of the country's leading plein air painters, is highly respected among collectors and fellow artists alike. Past President of the Plein Air Painters of America, he is a popular instructor, guest lecturer, and art juror throughout the country and abroad. Macpherson is sought after as an art judge, curator and speaker around the country. He has won numerous national awards, including so many in national Oil Painters of America competitions that he is the first artist in the organization to be elevated from Signature Member status to that of Master Signature Member. Macpherson excels in his ability to paint all subject matter: landscape, still life, and figurative works.

Mary Whyte is an artist, author and teacher. She is nationally recognized for her figurative watercolor paintings of the women of Johns Island, SC. In recent years, Whyte has devoted more time to plein air paintings and landscapes. Her paintings have been exhibited in the nation's most prestigious shows, and her work hangs in numerous private and museum collections. Mary has been recently featured in International Artist and American Artist magazines.
