WICKWIRE Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Kathy Veverka

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, will present the exhibit entitled, Step Into Spring, featuring works by Kathy Veverka on view on Apr. 3, 2009.

Says Veverka, "Clay is such a wonderful medium in which to work. I love to throw! Even after 30 years of working on a potter's wheel, it still amazes me that I can create any shape I desire from a simple ball of clay."

Veverka has a BFA from Michigan State University with an emphasis in printmaking. After teaching high school art and pottery for 4 years, she decided to become a studio potter. She has incorporated the techniques of incising and carving from her printmaking days into the surface design she uses on her pots today. Having a passion for flowers plays a big part of her wheel thrown and slab built stoneware pottery. Each flower is hand sculpted and then attached to Veverka's pots.

All pieces are bisque fired, hand painted with under glaze and glaze, and then fired again to almost 2300 degrees in an electric kiln. Creating beautiful yet functional pottery that hopefully brings joy and beauty to those who admire and use her work is Veverka's intent.

Veverka has exhibited her work in numerous fine art fairs through the Midwest and South since 1974 and has won quite a number of awards. Says Veverka, "my greatest rewards are the customers who purchase my work and come back year after year to add other pieces to their collection."

WICKWIRE offers unique, new works of traditional and transitional art and contemporary folk art of the highest quality - original paintings, glorious American handmade craft, handcrafted furniture, landscape photography, exquisite jewelry and more.
