Edisto Day Bazaar on Edisto Beach, SC, Takes Place on May 4, 2013

The Whatsoever Circle of King’s Daughters is sponsoring the Annual Edisto Day Bazaar, held at the Lions Club Building, 2907 Myrtle Street on Edisto Beach, SC, on May 4, 2013, from 10am-3pm.

Come enjoy an old time bazaar with over fifty guest arts and crafts vendors. Other booths include attic treasures, baked goods, books & media, boutique (ladies jewelry and accessories), plants, white elephant, and lunch at the KD Café. Win a handmade quilt and a variety of gifts donated by local merchants.

The event is sponsored by the Whatsoever Circle of King’s Daughters, and proceeds benefit humanitarian projects and services for Edisto Beach and Island residents.

The King’s Daughters Quilt this year is called “A Walk in the Garden” and was inspired by the anticipation of beautiful spring flowers. It was designed especially for the Edisto Day Bazaar by Lois Anderson, Margaret Arnett and Marsha Korpanty, who also are members of Island Quilters Quilt Guild of John’s Island, SC. The Island Quilters create “charity quilts” for a variety of charities and organizations and have supported the King’s Daughters efforts in the past.

Using the pattern created by the local quilters, and their own fabric, the Island Quilt members pieced over 140 floral blocks that were used in the quilt. At a guild meeting and at Marsha Korpanty’s house, The Island Quilters pieced the many blocks into a quilt top. They were assisted by Judy Blancett and Gerri Hutto. Both days were like an old fashioned “quilting bee” except using sewing machines!

The floral blocks are off-set with green and white sashing and borders. A dark green border and binding frames the quilt, which measures 100” x 117”. The floral theme also was used for the backing which is green, with roses. The quilting was done by a Summerville, SC, long-arm quilter who gives “charity” quilters an excellent discount. The quilting is large roses. Unlike many quilts, it is reversible.

The quilt will be displayed at the King’s Daughters Bazaar at the Lion’s Club, on May 4th. The raffle donations are $1.00 each or six for $5.00.
