Tyndall Galleries in Chapel Hill, NC, Features Works by Jane Filer

The Tyndall Galleries, at University Mall, in Chapel Hill, NC, is presenting The Ocean and the Woods, featuring new paintings by Jane Filer, on view through Apr. 20, 2013.

This exhibition includes twenty-six ethereal, dreamlike painting with Filer’s distinctive vivid colors, her mystical visual stories, and the spiritual essence of her extraordinary sensibilities.

Filer divides her time between her cottage on the coast and her home in the piedmont woods of North Carolina where she draws inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds her. The interaction she has with wildlife in both places begets a sort of communion. There are sprinklings in these works of time she spent as a youth in Western Australia with influences of Aboriginal storytelling mingled with her amazing imagination. Filer’s paintings are sure to transport the viewer into another dimension. These fantastic episodes bridge the gap between experience and emotion.

Filer received a BFA with Honors from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where she earned the Rickert-Ziebold Trust Award, the highest award in the country given to graduating seniors. She received an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her work has received many awards and has been widely published in magazines and quarterlies. It is included in numerous prestigious private, corporate and museum collections in America, Europe and Asia. Among these are IBM, Eisai, Momentum Research, Capital Partners, The University of North Carolina, UNC Memorial Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, the American Embassies in Talin, Estonia and Kampala, Uganda, and Southern Illinois University Museum. Prominent collectors are Kevin Klose, President Emeritus, National Public Radio and Eileen Naughton, Google New York – Media Sales Director.

Filer was commissioned by the Triangle Area Sister Cities in 2011 to paint a 45-foot long mural for the Raleigh Durham International Airport. The mural, titled Friendly Folks, is located in the International Baggage Claim area and welcomes people from foreign lands to North Carolina. The Sister Cities is an organization that promotes world peace through friendships and sharing.
