Susan Filley

With support from an Artist's Project Grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, Susan Filley has been able to begin to realize a dream that she brought with her when she moved here to South Carolina 4 years ago. Feeling that there was a need for greater development in the Ceramics Arts in Charleston, she is working to develop a working group studio which also acts as a workshop space to bring national artists to the city, as a meeting center for local clay artists, and as a site for exhibitions of the highest quality.

Filley has a Master's of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Louisiana State University and has been a working studio potter for over 15 years. She is currently a Director for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and works with artists from across the country to develop educational programming and ceramics exhibitions at an international level. Filley also teaches workshops throughout the country at art centers and universities.
