MicroCosm Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Suzy Stelmaszek

The MicroCosm Gallery in the Cosmos Café of Charlotte, NC, will present an exhibit of works by Suzy Stelmaszek. Entitled Dichotomous/Syntheses, the exhibit will continue through May 31.

Stelmaszek is a graduate of Radford University in Southwest Virginia and has always been influenced by the mountainous landscape of the New River Valley and surrounding areas. Currently living in Charlotte, many ideas in her work are still drawn from the Virginia landscape where she spent most of my time painting.

Of her work Stelmaszek says, "Concepts in my recent work are not derived from the Virginia landscapes in a true-life sense, but more in a quintessential form. That is to say that I have carried what I feel is the essence of my past imagery into my new paintings. By working from nature I have found a connection to the underlying rhythmic pattern of that which is evident in flowing water, in a dynamic rock formation, or in a figure."

In Dichotomous/Synthesis: Recent Work, Stelmaszek believes that the message conveyed is not found in the complete body of work, but more concentrated in each work as an entity in itself. She says, "I feel that in each piece there is a dichotomy, opposing forces at work that create a synthesis, a fusion into a congruent whole. In nature it is evident that the tensions created by conflicting elements intensify the movement of energy, the very ingredient of life itself. I hope that through my recent work I have shed a glimpse on the rhythmic patterns of energy through juxtaposition of colors and forms, and dynamics of light, movement and composition. My hopes are that the viewer may enter each work as a new realm."
