May Issue 2003

Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Jane Desonier

Artists-of-the-Month for May for the The Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, will feature the works of Jane Desonier through May 31, 2003. The exhibit will feature landscape painting in oil reflecting the beauty of Western North Carolina hiking and farm areas.

Desonier received a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting at the University of New Orleans. She continued her training at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, and studied with a number of outstanding painters. She has received two Grumbacher Gold Medallions for Best-of-Show, and two of her paintings hang in the World Trade Center, New Orleans in the permanent collection. She won Best-of-Show Award three years in a row in Hendersonville, NC's City of Four Seasons in Two Dimension exhibition.

Desonier says of her art: "My art is about communication beauty, beauty that I see around me, and my feelings about a particular view on a particular day. I want to create light-filled landscapes that convey a strong sense of time and place. I believe it is important to record scenes from our mountains that reflect the way they are now because this quite, beautiful part of our country is experiencing change."
